La Vega (2.4 MW) is a run-of-river power plant with an average production of 4 GWh per annum. It is located in the limits of Sierra Nevada national park (Spain) and is as such an ideal location to validate ecological status and biodiversity monitoring developments planned during the project. The predominant climate is Mediterranean Subpolar. The source of the water in this case is from snow-melt and the Sierra Nevada glacier. The hydropower plant is composed of a Pelton turbine that operates between 0.2-1.5 m3/s with a nominal head of 185 m, at a nominal speed of 500 rpm. The main water use is for hydropower.
